6-Week Speaking Studio
Edge Up Talk Lab is a 6-week speaking studio designed for students who want to move beyond simply speaking clearly and learn how to communicate ideas with confidence, structure, and impact.
Students learn how to take an idea, perspective, experience, or story and transform it into a compelling short talk through storytelling, organization, research, delivery practice, and feedback.
More than a public speaking class, Edge Up Talk Lab helps students discover what they want to say, why it matters, and how to communicate it in a way that connects with an audience.
Edge Up Talk Lab is designed for students who:
enjoy sharing ideas and opinions
want to become stronger, more confident speakers
have stories, interests, or perspectives they want to express
want to improve storytelling and presentation skills
are ready to write, revise, practice, and receive feedback
are interested in debate, leadership, entrepreneurship, or future academic opportunities
No prior speaking experience is required. Students should be ready to participate, collaborate, practice, and refine their work.
✔ Weekly 90-minute in-person studio sessions
✔ Idea development and talk creation process
✔ Storytelling and message-building frameworks
✔ Speaking structure and presentation coaching
✔ Delivery practice and instructor feedback
✔ Revision and refinement support
✔ Edge Up Student Talks Showcase experience
Students will learn how to:
identify an idea worth sharing
develop a clear message and purpose
organize thoughts into a compelling structure
use storytelling to connect with an audience
support ideas with examples and evidence
create stronger openings and conclusions
develop confident delivery
use voice, pacing, expression, and body language
receive feedback and revise effectively
Throughout the 6-week studio, students move through the process speakers use to develop meaningful talks:
Idea → Message → Story → Draft → Practice → Refine → Present
Students receive coaching and feedback as they develop their talk, learning that strong communication comes from thoughtful preparation, practice, and revision.
The studio culminates in an Edge Up showcase experience where students present their completed talks to an audience.
Students leave with:
a completed original talk
stronger communication skills
greater confidence presenting ideas
experience sharing a message with purpose
